Gramática Enfocada: Tiempos pasados y 'used to' (Nivel B1)

1. Pasado Simple (Past Simple)

¿Cuándo se usa?
- Acciones completas que empezaron y terminaron en el pasado.
Ejemplo: I went to Spain on holiday last year.
- Situaciones en el pasado que ya no existen.
Ejemplo: I lived in New York for three years.

Estructura:

- Afirmativo:
- Sujeto + verbo en pasado (ej: enjoyed).
- ¡Ojo! Verbos irregulares no usan -ed (ej: went, met).

- Negativo:
- Sujeto + didn’t + verbo en infinitivo (sin to).
Ejemplo: I didn’t enjoy the food.

- Preguntas:
- Did + sujeto + verbo en infinitivo?
Ejemplo: Did you meet Sam?

Ejemplos clave:
- Lisa was really angry with me.
- I met Sam two years ago.

2. Pasado Continuo (Past Continuous)

¿Cuándo se usa?
- Acciones en progreso cuando otra acción pasada ocurrió.
Ejemplo: I was walking through the park when I saw James.
- Situaciones temporales en el pasado.
Ejemplo: We were staying in London for a week.

Estructura:

- Afirmativo:
- I/He/She/It + was + verbo con -ing.
- You/We/They + were + verbo con -ing.

- Negativo:
- I/He/She/It + wasn’t + verbo con -ing.
- You/We/They + weren’t + verbo con -ing.

- Preguntas:
- Was + I/he/she/it + verbo con -ing?
- Were + you/we/they + verbo con -ing?

Ejemplos clave:
- Ella hurt her foot while she was playing tennis.
- You weren’t sitting in the garden.

3. Pasado Perfecto (Past Perfect)

¿Cuándo se usa?
- Acciones que ocurrieron antes de otra acción pasada.
Ejemplo: I didn’t go to the cinema because I had seen the film before.
- Con expresiones como by the time, before, after.
Ejemplo: By the time we arrived, the train had left.

Estructura:

- Afirmativo:
- Sujeto + had + participio pasado (ej: gone).

- Negativo:
- Sujeto + hadn’t + participio pasado.

- Preguntas:
- Had + sujeto + participio pasado?

Ejemplos clave:
- Sara called me after she’d arrived home.
- Before I met him, I’d heard a lot about him.

4. Used To

¿Cuándo se usa?
- Hábitos o estados en el pasado que ya no existen.
Ejemplo: I used to drive everywhere, but now I travel by train.

Estructura:

- Afirmativo:
- Sujeto + used to + verbo en infinitivo.

- Negativo:
- Sujeto + didn’t use to + verbo en infinitivo.
(Nota: A veces se usa "didn’t used to", pero es incorrecto).

- Preguntas:
- Did + sujeto + use to + verbo?

Ejemplos clave:
- They used to be good friends, but then they had a big argument.
- Did you use to play in the park?

¿Cómo diferenciarlos?

- Past Simple: Acciones completas en un momento específico del pasado.
- Past Continuous: Acciones en progreso interrumpidas o situaciones temporales.
- Past Perfect: Acciones que ocurrieron antes de otra acción pasada.
- Used To: Hábitos o estados que ya no son ciertos.

¡Tip! Fíjate en palabras como last year (past simple), when/while (past continuous), by the time (past perfect) o but now (used to). 😊
